Portland, OR, USA

DISPOSSESSED is a heavy music collective from Portland, Oregon, blending elements of sludge, doom, and death metal into a powerful sound rooted in anger, despair, and political resistance. Formed in 2014, the band emerged from Portland’s metal scene with a mission to confront systems of oppression through uncompromising, feedback-driven music.

Their sound combines slow-burning riffs, bleak atmospheres, and a raw, aggressive energy that draws influence from bands like Corrupted, Asunder, Winter, and Grief. Lyrically and thematically, DISPOSSESSED engages directly with issues such as systemic violence, environmental destruction, and carceral injustice, grounding their work in anti-authoritarian ideals.

In 2019, the band released their debut full-length, Exanimate, a searing critique of societal collapse. They returned in 2022 with the single Makhnovshchina, continuing to explore revolutionary themes through crushing, emotionally charged compositions.

In collaboration with Carbonized Records, DISPOSSESSED’s latest release, Dêmocide, features five tracks of devastating, sludgy doom. Recorded by Mike Vera at VeraTone and mastered by James Plotkin at Plotkinworks, the record reflects the band’s ongoing commitment to challenging silence and injustice through sound—direct, unrelenting, and deeply resonant.

Dispossessed - “Dêmocide”

Released October 3, 2025

The second Full-Length from Dispossessed presents a return to the suffocating finality of crushing Death, Doom, and Sludge! Taking influence from celebrated acts such as Asunder, Corrupted, Coffins, and Winter, "Dêmocide" paints the bleak, desolate soundscape for our modern times

Dispossessed - “Exanimate”

Released October 5, 2019

“The four tracks on "Examinate" are drenched in darkness, burdened riffs, and ghastly vocals delivered at molasses speeds. Sadness and despair is definitely prevalent throughout, but it doesn’t bring the listener down. The vibe is one of empowerment. Considering the subject matter at hand, giving the listener license to absorb "Examinate", the inspiration to think about its content, and tightly close their fist is paramount.”

“War, genocide, and especially politicide shouldn’t be lingering in mind as potential existential threat but stabbing at the cerebellum in panicked burst as the boot continues to stomp loudly overhead… a feeling which the gravel-grinding doom of Portland, Oregon-based quintet DISPOSSESSED further embody on this timely sophomore full-length album.”

“Dispossessed’s Dêmocide is a record that asks nothing of you and offers no questions nor answers that you might think regarding this release. It really is like wandering into a nightmare that’s already ongoing; it may not be everything that haunts your soul but it’s not going to cease anytime soon.”

“The world is a dark, disjointed, and divisive place. Dispossessed just gave us a cold, venomous soundtrack for the most troubled of times. They speak of “systemic violence, environmental destruction, and carceral injustice, grounding their work in anti-authoritarian ideals,” and we NEED an album so angry right now. This fucking rules. To put it quite crassly: turn it on, turn it up, and watch the world burn along with them…”

“Dispossessed’s commitment to crushing fascism and lashing back at powers of oppression act as a fucking warhammer on “Dêmocide.” The music is a galvanizing statement conveyed by earth-crushing doom and death that feels grimy and devastating, the exact type of response you wish people who could do something about this would muster. This is a massive strike back, and while it might not change the tide, it’s heartening to know something so ugly could stand for righteousness.”

“Their new record Dêmocide via Carbonized Records is unrelentingly heavy, like an elephant’s foot on your chest when nature finally has enough of the human experiment and sends her most precious children to come reap their revenge. Like Dêmocide, your suffocation will be slow and drawn out, except this record will make you enjoy every minute of it.”

“Portland-based death-doom band Dispossessed return with their second full-length album, Dêmocide, a brutally heavy and politically charged monolith released on October 3 through Carbonized Records. Built in the city’s vibrant DIY scene since 2014, the band’s latest release marks both an artistic high point and a loud call against systemic injustice, channeling a decade of sharpened fury into four carefully crafted tracks totaling 32 minutes.”
